Martigny. Fondation Gianadda.

Every Winter I try to visit the exhibition in the Swiss Fondation Gianadda. This time it was about Ernest Biéler, a local painter with much interest in the local population and in textiles:

The yarn is placed three times around the left forefinger, I have seen this in reality:

The landscape behind the knitter was just as detailed:

These girls are wearing the local costume of Savièse which I plan to visit next year:

Festive preparations:
Préparations pour la fête:

Mooi, toch?
A very natural way of painting:

Even the bows on the shoes were depicted:

Traditionally the men from Savièse do wear intricately knit cabled jackets:

The motif is painted with care:
On pourrait presque lire le motif:

En breien leerde je al van kleinsaf:
You learnt to knit at a young age:

Also with the yarn around the tiny left forefinger:

She is wearing a bonnet adorned with tiny beads:

Spinning was a common activity:
Le filage était une activité quotidienne:

Een hele mooie haspel is dit:
A nice skein winder this is:

And this painting of a man with his book collection was my favourite:

Could this be because of the cat?

When I left the museum this frozen landscape caught my eye, it looked Japanese somewhere:
