Honger-Hunger-Faim

Toen ik na het zien van al die geweldige kantpatronen in Antwerpen rondliep, begon ik overal inspirerende motieven te zien, zoals op deze beide huisdeuren:
When I came out of the lace exhibition with all those magnificent patterns, I started to see motifs everywhere, like on these two house-doors:
Lorsque je quittais l'exposition de dentelle avec ses dessins magnifiques je commençais à apercevoir des motifs partout, spécialement sur les portes d'entrée:

Het werd tijd dat ik niet alleen mijn ogen maar ook mijn maag tevreden stelde en in de "Bien Soigné" was ik daarvoor aan het juiste adres. Eerst een kunstzinnige carpaccio van eendeborst,
It became time to satisfy not only my eyes but my stomach too and the restaurant "Bien Soigné" does what its name predicts. First I had a carpaccio of duck breast,
Il devenait temps de réjouir mon petit ventre et le "Bien Soigné" porte bien son nom. D'abord un carpaccio de magret de canard,

vervolgens Iberisch varkensvlees met bospaddestoelen
then Iberian pork with wild mushrooms,
ensuite du porc ibérique aux champignons sauvages,

en tot slot een dessert met chocolade van drie verschillende origines. Het was even lekker als het eruit ziet!
and to finish a dessert with chocolate from 3 different origins. It was as tasty as it is looking!
et en finale un dessert aux trois chocolats tous d'origine différente. Aussi succulent que ce que les photos suggèrent!

En nog was ik niet voldaan. Vlakbij ligt Julija's shop, dat als een magneet op mij werkt. Zachte beestjes (zoek het leuke vosje!) en dito wol in de etalage:
And still I was not entirely satisfied. Just around the corner lies Julija's shop, irresistable to me. Soft cuddly toys (find the little fox!) and luxurious yarns in the window:
Et après je n'étais pas encore satisfaite avant de visiter Julija's shop. Des peluches en tricot (petit renard très joli) et des fils de rêve à l'étalage:

De wand binnen is bekleed met garens van Blue Skye Alpacas, Spud & Chloë, Citronille en meer, en is een ware verzoeking voor wolfanaten:

Antwerpen, Maagdenhuis, Kanttekeningen

Waar was ik nu ook al weer gebleven? Oh ja, op de dag dat ik de Ontrafel-expo bezocht kon ik ook het einde van Kanttekeningen meemaken, een tentoonstelling over Antwerpse kant van de 16e eeuw tot nu. Hier een typische kantsoort, de zogenaamde "pottenkant", naar het (bloem)potmotief dat telkens terugkomt:
Where did I leave again? The day I visited the Tricot-Unravel expo, I also saw an exhibition about lace in Antwerp from the 17th century till now. Here a example of pot lace, named after the typical flower pot motif used:
Où en étais-je?Le jour ou j'ai visité l'exposition sur le tricot j'ai visitée une autre sur la dentelle à Anvers à partir du 17ème siècle. Voici un example typique avec son motif de pot à fleurs:


Het museum van het Maagdenhuis toont ook de kleertjes van de weesmeisjes die er van 1552 tot 1882 verbleven, aandoenlijk om te zien:
The museum also shows the uniforms from the orphan-girls living there in the past. Very moving to see:

Vaak werden er ook kinderen uit de vondelingenschuif opgenomen. Om ze eventueel later terug te kunnen identificeren werd er als bewijs b.v. een half doorgeknipt document of een speelkaart toegevoegd:
Some children were abandoned in a foundling slide, often with a document or a playing-card cut in half to eventually prove in the future that the baby was related to the person who owned the other half:

Toen er nog geen technische tekeningen bestonden liepen de hoeken nog niet verder in tekening maar werd er een hoek met een naadje gemaakt:

Er vielen op deze tentoonstelling ook veel schitterend gekleurde ontwerpen te bewonderen, zoals deze gebreide golfjas!

There was also a lot of colour at the exhibition like this extraordinary golfcoat!

C'était aussi une exposition pleine de couleur comme le démontre ce magnifique manteau pour faire du golf! 

De motieven in Art Deco-stijl waren prachtig gestileerd, ze zouden nu ook nog mooi zijn in een kledingstuk:

These Art Deco patterns are beautifully stylized, they would still look very good when used in knitwork nowadays:

Ook deze vrolijke jas van Rudy Gernreich vond ik erg leuk. Deze Amerikaanse ontwerper was mij eigenlijk onbekend. Hij beweerde in de jaren '70 dat de mode zou verdwijnen, dat er belangrijker dingen waren dan dat:

This cheerful coat was very much to my liking. It was designed by Rudy Gernreich, an American fashion designer who predicted in the seventies that fashion would go out fashion, that fashion would become less important:

Ergens was een gedicht te lezen ter verheerlijking van de pull Rykiel. Mooi verwoord!

Ook de kousenliefhebbers zullen deze expo best interessant vinden. Zo is er een authentieke kousenbreimachine uit 1928 te zien:

Les amateurs de chaussettes ne seront pas déçus non plus, il y a même une machine à tricoter des chaussettes datant de 1928:

Antwerpen, Momu-Ontrafel, Lingerie. Unravel, Lingerie.

Er viel nog veel meer te ontdekken op de tentoonstelling, zoals deze schitterende collectie badpakken. Het ééndelige moderne badpak ontstond in de jaren 1920:

There was a lot more to discover like this fine collection of bathing suits. The one piece bathing suite was invented around 1920:

Il y avait encore beaucoup plus à découvrir dans cette exposition comme cet ensemble de maillots de bain. Le maillot une pièce fut inventé dans les années 20:

Maar het is bijna slapenstijd, hét moment voor een ouderwetse slaapmuts, hier met een opengewerkt golfpatroon in de rand:

But it is near sleeping time so a night cap would be more appropriate now; this one from around 1900 has an edging of feather and fan:

Deze vond ik eigenlijk nog mooier door de kantmotiefjes op de rand, de rechts-averechts gebreide boord in damastpatroon en de fijne chevronstrepen naar de punt toe:

This one I even liked better because of the lace edging, the damask border and the fine chevron stripes towards the top:

Je préfère encore celui-ci, avec son bord dentelle, une bande en tricot damassé et de fins chevrons jusqu'à la pointe:

Finalement je préfère encore rêver de ce bonnet de nuit du 18ème...
