Indrukken uit de Valais-Impressions from the Valais

De lange pauze op mijn blog betekent niet dat ik mij teruggetrokken heb in de bergen van de Zwitserse Valais...hoewel ik minstens zes goede redenen heb om het er van jaar op jaar héél aangenaam te vinden:
The long interval in blogging does not mean I retreated into the mountains of the Swiss Valais...although if I tag myself I can find at least six good reasons to enjoy my stay year after year without tiring from it:

Vooreerst is het landschap echt indrukwekkend, een bron van inspiratie voor iedereen die houdt van fotografie of schilderkunst:
First of all the landscape is truly impressive, it is a source of inspiration for everybody who likes photography or painting:





Wandelen op sneeuwschoenen is één van mijn geliefde sporten, hier op de Daubensee nabij Leukerbad:
Snowshoeing is one of my favourite sports, here on the Daubensee near Leukerbad:

Er zijn warme thermale bronnen in de omgeving. Het is heel prettig terzelfdertijd te genieten van het water, de zon en de bergen:
As there are thermal springs in the region, it is lovely to enjoy the water, the sun and the mountains all together:

Winkelen en etalagekijken is een sport op zichzelf:
(Window) shopping is a sport in itself:

Beneden in de vallei bevinden zich pittoreske oude stadjes als Sion en Martigny, een goed alternatief als het weer in de bergen het laat afweten:
Down in the valley there are lovely old cities like Sion and Martigny, also good for a visit when the weather is bad in the mountains:

Er is ook druiventeelt en wijnproduktie in de streek, wat een mooi contrast oplevert met de besneeuwde bergen:
It is also a wine country, quite special with the mountains as a background:
Op de top van deze heuvel bevindt zich La Vigne à Farinet, de kleinste wijngaard ter wereld, een heel mooie meditatieve plek, momenteel eigendom van de Dalai Lama. De opbrengst ervan wordt besteed aan goede werken.
On top of this hill there is La Vigne à Farinet, the smallest vineyard on earth, also a place for meditation, now owned by the Dalai Lama. The proceeds of it go to charity.
