Debbie Bliss-Dekentje met alfabet-Alphabet Blanket

Een nieuwe baby is opnieuw een gelegenheid om de breinaalden eens aan het werk te zetten: ik vind het erg leuk om iets zachts te maken voor zo'n klein hummeltje.
Het alfabet-dekentje van Debbie Bliss heb ik altijd erg mooi gevonden en na 4 weken intensief breien en tellen kan ik het resultaat tonen:
A newborn baby permits me once again to try my knitting needles on a baby item: I love the thought of making something cuddly for a tiny one.
I always favoured the Alphabet Blanket by Debbie Bliss and after 4 weeks of intensive counting and knitting here is the result:


Dit bracht ook eigen herinneringen boven aan het leren lezen en schrijven. Op de foto het Aap-Noot-Mies-leesplankje met losse lettertjes, mijn eerste leesboekje, mijn eerste geschreven woordjes en twee pennen, die van mij en die van mijn vader. Van nostalgie gesproken...
This blanket reminded me of my own learning to read and write. On this picture figures the learning method with loose letters to put on the words beneath the pictures, my first reading book ever, my very first writing and two pens, one from myself and one from my father. Nostalgia is not far...



De letter K van het dekentje vind ik het mooist. Hier is ook goed te zien dat de gaatjes zowel links als rechts van de minderingen liggen hetgeen het tellen niet vergemakkelijkt:
The letter K is one of my favourites. It shows clearly that the holes lie on both sides of the decreases which does not facilitate the counting:


De afwerking met driehoekjes langs de rand is erg decoratief maar arbeidsintensief: elk driehoekje wordt afzonderlijk gebreid, hele korte rijtjes dus...
The edging with triangles is very decorative but labour intensive: each triangle is knit separately asking for very short rows...


Het gebruik van een ornament op de 4 hoeken is een elegante oplossing om het aantal letters te compenseren:
The use of an ornament in the corners is a quite nice solution to compensate for the number of existing letters:


En op de salontafel zit een ander ornament dat poseert als een volleerd fotomodel:
And on the drawing-room table another ornament is posing as an accomplished photomodel:

prachtig dekentje (wel voor een vroegrijp baby'tje ;-) ) en prachtige 'nostalgische' plaatjes die veel in herinnering roepen.
ik heb een zwak voor afwerking met driehoekjes maar wat een werk als je die allemaal afzonderlijk moet breien!
