Juneberry triangle-Wolkeuze. Yarn choice.

As soon as I saw the Juneberry triangle from Brooklyntweed I liked it and it seemed to me a classic construction from the neck down like the Kiri shawl. I looked up the different stitches in my dictionaries (Burda, Vogue, Hitomi Shida 250 Couture Knitting Patterns). Nevertheless I ordered the pattern because I wanted to know if Jared Flood used the Japanese technique of making bobbles in knitting with a crochet needle...
I wanted the yarn to be as berry-like as possible and I fell for Silk Maiden:

As soon as the yarn arrived it was jealously guarded:

Heerlijke bessenkleurtjes:
Berry galore:

Alas, I should know by now that variegated handpainted yarn does not go well together with lace patterns, especially after reading this blog post by Fleegle. Pussycat drew my attention to the fact that there are two primary colours in the yarn, blueberry and raspberry and this helped me in the execution of the border of the shawl:

And for the center piece of the triangle I used some silk yarn in a solid colour from my stash:

Dit alles bleek de juiste keuze...
This proved to be the right choice...

Sam the Ram-Poten. Legs. Pattes.

Adding legs to Sam's body was not too easy; the forepaws came first:

And then the back-paws:

Quite a lot of sock needles were required:
J'ai du utiliser plusieurs sets d'aiguilles à chaussettes:

His belly needed suturing by grafting rib stitches, requiring some dexterity:

The recovery was swift and the scar was healing well:

bekende kinderliedje...
And then I knitted him black feet...

Bolero-shawl from Julija's Shop

A day in Antwerp is not complete for me without a visit to Julija's Shop. She has these irresistible Japanese knitting, crochet and sewing magazines and in the Marché vol.8 2009 I found a lovely bolero pattern that can be transformed into a shawl. Julija made me opt for Surnaturelle and Alpaca yarn from La Droguerie and this is the result:

With the small crocheted balls you can fix the shawl in every possible way:

Thrown over the shoulder like a shawl:

Or just worn straight and then you get like small sleeves:

You can make the buttons run two by two:

A nice piece of crochet with many options...
Un châle-boléro plein de possibilités...

Dagje Antwerpen-A day in Antwerp-Une journée à Anvers

Prachtige opstelling:
Like I told in the previous post I spent a day in Antwerp to get warmer. First I visited a Europalia exhibition about the Chinese Tang dynasty. Great layout:

A refined statue of Guanyin, the goddess of mercy:

Beautiful Chinese hair ornaments with a motif of chrysanthemums; the top of both pins are like butterfly wings:

The lunch at Fiskebar consisted of delicious seafood like these razor clams:

Winter was reigning but the shops abounded with Spring dresses already:

And this bag reminded me of roses in June:

Lena en Zasa was erg aantrekkelijk:
Woollen yarn is a lovely insulator so I headed for the new yarn store of Lena and Zasa. Here the stylish window:

The yarn wall:

Finally I bought some Silk blend from Manos del Uruguay and some Opus1 (with essential oil Aloe vera and jojoba) from Zitron, one softer than the other:

The Opus1 yarn is likely to become a Meret hat for next Winter (my second future hat project, I won't be cold :-)

Nice detail the table for kids and the writing on the board that says "Doing what you love will make you good":

Van de kelder tot het dak-From the basement to the roof-De la cave au toit

And then, at the end of a long long winter, a long crack came into the boiler of the central heating system with much noise:

A lining of 21 meters had to be pulled along the facade and pushed through the chimney, quite impressive:

One of the work-men was a genuine equilibrist, having worked in a circus when he was young.
And so the works that began in the basement ended on the roof!

Why telling this all? After some days without adequate heating I went to Antwerp , to be in the warmth for a day at least...

Sam the Ram-Lichaam. Body. Corps.

Sam the Ram in the making has been having a hard time; frequently he was hanging upside down:

This picture shows the many Aran patterns next to each other. Every pattern has a different number of rows and each chart must be taken in account separately, there is no overall chart:

Embroidery and knitting.

A wintery day in February in Geneva, cold and windy, but the man with his street-organ and the cat did not seem to mind:

The Milka cow was kept in the stable:

But an extraordinary exhibition in the Barbier-Mueller museum, a confrontation between ethnic jewelry and minerals, made me forget the dreary weather for a moment:

And then I visited some shops on the lookout for embroidery. First there was Cotton Shop, with a lot of cross stitch but also the needlepoint kits from Elizabeth Bradley:

Then I went to Jeux d'Aiguilles where I found some nice gentian buttons:

By chance I walked by the Mercerie Catherine B; the cosiness of the shop, the vastness supply and the warm and helpful reception make this my favorite adress for cross stitch, traditional embroidery and needlepoint:

The embroidery kit for the cushion in the corner has been on my wishlist for some time. It is a design from Bénédicte Réveilhac with the irresistable saying that "Happiness is at the back of the garden":

Later that day I made a walk in the typical neighbourhood of Carouge to visit the Tricolaine yarn store:

Heerlijk uitnodigend:
Very inviting:
Très accueillant:

Heel mooi linnen van het Zweedse
Marks en Kattens:

I recognized the hat immediately as Selbu modern from Kate Gagnon:

And I really liked Ganpi Abaka Surabu, a paper yarn from Noro made from the stem of 8 year old trees from the mountains, because of the colour and the texture:

Isn't this a lovely cupboard?
La belle armoire!
