Het was moeilijk om een keuze te maken uit al die mooie wol bij Julija maar de zachtrode kleur van de Alpaca silk van Blue Sky Alpacas deed mij overstag gaan:

Van uittrekken kon geen sprake zijn, daarvoor had ik er al teveel tijd en moeite aan besteed. De kraag en de randen van de mouwen moesten er wel af en na veel denk- en paswerk vond ik een manier om de bolero met een speld als sjaal te dragen: twee puntjes opzij en een langer stuk in het midden:
Having to frog this project made me shudder as I had already done a lot of work on it. I removed the collar and the sleeve edgings and after some weeks! of procrastination I decided to wear it with a pin as a shawl, with two shorter point at the sides and a longer part in the middle:
Je n'avais vraiment pas envie de défaire tout mon travail. J'ai enlevé le col et les poignets, retourné le travail dans tous les sens et je me suis décidée à le porter en châle avec une épingle. Il y a deux pointes ples courtes sur le côté et une partie plus longue au milieu:

Bolero-shawl from Julija's Shop

Een dagje Antwerpen, daar hoort voor mij indien mogelijk een bezoekje bij aan Julija's shop. Deze keer waren er weer van die onweerstaanbare Japanse boekjes. In de Marché vol.8 2009 uit de Heart Warming Life Series (ISBN 978-4-529-04758-6) vond ik een model voor een gehaakte bolero die tot een sjaal kan omgevormd worden. Met de grijze Surnaturelle en de witte Alpaga van La Droguerie die Julie mij hielp kiezen, kwam ik tot het volgende resultaat:
A day in Antwerp is not complete for me without a visit to Julija's Shop. She has these irresistible Japanese knitting, crochet and sewing magazines and in the Marché vol.8 2009 I found a lovely bolero pattern that can be transformed into a shawl. Julija made me opt for Surnaturelle and Alpaca yarn from La Droguerie and this is the result:
Une journée à Anvers me donne toujours envie de visiter le magasin de Julija. Cette fois-ci je me suis procuré un magazine japonais dont un modèle de crochet pour un boléro pouvant se transformer en châle m'avait séduit aussitôt. Julie m'a conseillé de la Surnaturelle grise et de l'Alpaga blanc de La Droguerie et voici le résultat:

Japanse pelerine-Japanese capelet-shawl

Het eerste afgewerkte project voor 2010 is deze gehaakte pelerine met een koordje in de kraag (afkomstig uit het Japans Let's Knit magazine met ISBN 978-4-529-04732-6):

Door het koordje los te laten bekomt men een sjaal, handiger om dragen in een mantel:

The capelet can be changed into a shawl by loosening the cord, which can be handy if you wear a coat:

De gebruikte mohairwol, gekocht ik tijdens mijn bezoek aan Julija's Shop in Antwerpen, is Plumette van La Droguerie. Dubbel verwerkt gaf dit een mooi, licht en heel zacht resultaat:

Om pomponnetjes te maken was het garen echter iets te dun, ze bleven niet goed in vorm. Een uitkomst was het haken van hyperbolische bolletjes: hier komt wiskunde bij te pas, gelukkig is de formule deze keer eenvoudig. Haak 4 vasten in een kringetje en sluit dit. Blijf in het rond haken waarbij in iedere vaste 3 vasten gehaakt worden. Door zo extreem te meerderen begint alles op te krullen en bekomt men na een tijdje leuke bolletjes:

The yarn was a bit too thin to make consistent pompoms. I found a solution in crocheting hyperbolic balls using a mathematic formula. In this case a simple one: crochet 4 double crochet stitches (single crochet for the US), continue crocheting in the round and make 3 stitches in each following stitch. Increasing that much gives in a lot of curling and results in nice spheres:
Le fil était un peu trop fin pour confectionner des pompoms, alors j'ai choisi de crocheter des petites boules hyperboliques selon une formule mathématique, heureusement assez simple dans ce cas-ci. On commence par crocheter 4 mailles serrées qu'on ferme. On continue à travailler en rond en crochetant 3 mailles serrées dans chaque maille suivante. On augmente tellement vite de cette façon que tout commence à s'enrouler et après quelque temps on obtient de petites boules mignonnes:
