België is bij uitstek het land van peperkoek, speculaas en marsepein. Het uitstalraam van één van de Brusselse vestigingen van Dandoy is hier een mooi voorbeeld van!
Belgium is truly the land of gingerbread, speculaas and marzipan. Dandoy in Brussels is a perfect example of this!

Na het bezoek aan Julija's Shop bezochten we het derde luik van de tentoonstelling In het Maagdenhuis gespeld. Opnieuw prachtige kruissteek,

Heel bijzonder was ook dit boek waarin genoteerd werd welk werk de weesmeisjes tussen 1827 en 1839 in opdracht hadden uitgevoerd zoals het naaien van jongenshemdekens en het stoppen van sokken:

Julija's Shop-La Droguerie in Antwerpen.

Onlangs een dagje naar Antwerpen geweest waar Brabo nog steeds aanwezig is in het straatbeeld:
Recently I went to Antwerp, the city where the legend dwells about Brabo, a Roman soldier who conquered a giant and thus delivered Antwerp:

Niet alleen in Gent, ook in Antwerpen kwam er onlangs een winkel bij waar creatievelingen hun hartje kunnen ophalen. Julija's Shop heeft zoveel in huis: de garens van La Droguerie, stoffen in Liberty-stijl, knoopjes, lint, pareltjes, kits en boekjes vol inspiratie. Ook Japanse tijdschriften, zowel over naaien als over breien en haken, zijn verkrijgbaar. En het mooie is dat je er deskundig advies bijkrijgt; elke tweede donderdag van de maand is er zelfs breicafé in de winkel:

Comme beaucoup de lectrices francophones le savent déjà, il y a maintenant un magasin à Anvers qui est une vraie cave d'Ali Baba pour personnes créatives. Julija's Shop vend les laines de La Droguerie, des étoffes en style Liberty les unes plus jolies que les autres, des boutons, des rubans, des perles, des kits et les livres de La Droguerie. Et en plus on y trouve aussi des magazines japonais sur la couture, le tricot et le crochet. Des conseils experts sont donnés sur place et chaque deuxième jeudi du mois il y a un café-tricot:

Uiteindelijk koos ik voor Plumette, een zacht mohairgaren dat ik dubbel ga verwerken in een sjaal/cape naar Japans patroon:

For myself I bought some thin mohair. I am using it double in a inventive Japanese pattern for a shawl that can also be used as a capelet:

De tweede helft van november voelde ik mij een beetje verweesd: Stoffenidee, mijn meest nabije wolwinkel, was gesloten na uitverkoop. Gelukkig niet voor lang, op 1 december ging de nieuwe winkel open in een heel mooi pand in de Burgstraat 38a te Gent:

En momenteel loopt er in de uitstalramen van de Burgstraat tot 27 december een tentoonstelling over mode rond 1900, Tussen Stof en Steen. Bij Stoffenidee zijn enkele prachtige Souvenirs de ma Jeunesse te bewonderen, pronkrollen die meisjes maakten om zich te bekwamen in allerlei handwerktechnieken:
