Madeira-Dolfijnzwemmen.Swimming amid dolphins.

That day in September on Madeira on a boat excursion and in the hope to swim with dolphins, was memorable. The sky and the ocean were so deeply blue that I find them easily back amid all my pictures:

The animals are spotted with telescopes on high places on the coast and the small and fast boats of Rota dos Cetáceos are perfect to reach the place where they are:

The welfare of the animals comes in the first place. The excursions are supervised by a marine biologist who assesses the stress level of the animals; 20 minutes is the maximum time to stay with a group and they are not followed if they try to avoid the boat. Here a group of pilot whales:

You can clearly see the blowhole:

The most eastern tip of the island:

And then I had to enter the water and do some multi-tasking: hold on to the boat (these Atlantic spotted dolphins are not too curious, swim on and so the boat had to follow them), look my eyes out and try to get some pictures (not so evident these cheap underwater cameras, you have to wind them further and not loose hold of the boat:

It is lovely to see them evolve in their habitat with your own eyes:

There were many of them:

Something to remember next Winter...

How lovely! Sometime, you must go to Roatan and actually scuba with them. It's an amazing experience!
