Estland, geborduurd speelgoed. Estonia, embroidered toys.

The reason for visiting the Toy Museum in Brussels in the first place was an exhibition about textile toys from Estonia. Here you can see two nicely clad dolls from the island of Muhu:

Then comes this lovely cow with traditional Estonian
embroidery motives:

The doll on the left is wearing an embroidered cloak and the other one has twigs as legs!

An embroidered fish as a palm toy:
Un poisson brodé:

Een heel mooi bordspel met opgenaaide pailletten:
A beautifully executed board game adorned with sequins:

A felted game with tiny wooden jugs:

A card game with patterns from band weaving:

An embroidered game with a mill stone in the middle and mice running around it:

A dice game called "Apple tree across the yard" with motives that can be embroidered, knitted, ...

A domino game with patterns used for knitting traditional mittens:

A game printed with socks and balls of yarn:

And to finish here comes the Lambaloto!

What a splendid idea to teach children the traditional patterns while playing games...

These are simply astounding! I had no idea that knitting was so pervasive in Estonia. ...fleegle looks underneath the Lambaloto to see if the knitted puppets are under the box...
