Child's Placket-Neck Pullover

Slechts zelden krijg ik de kans om babyspulletjes voor iemand te breien. Iemand uit mijn omgeving beviel onlangs van een zoontje, een mooie gelegenheid om dit jongensachtige pullovertje te breien, de "Child's Placket-Neck Pullover" uit Last Minute Knitted Gifts, in "Wool Cotton" van Rowan:
It does not happen often that I can knit baby items. A boy was born to an acquaintance of mine, so I took the opportunity to knit the "Child's Placket-Neck Pullover" from Last Minute Knitted Gifts, in "Wool Cotton" by Rowan:


Het lijfje en de mouwen zijn in het rond gebreid volgens het patroon maar ik heb alles in rechte stukjes gebreid en onzichtbaar aan elkaar gemaasd:
The body and sleeves are knitted in the round in the pattern but I prefered to knit flat pieces and to sew them together invisibly:


Om de steken van de oksel vlot aan elkaar te kunnen mazen, brei ik er een reepje aan in een contrasterend garen zodat ik duidelijk zie waar de verbindingsdraad moet lopen:
To simplify the use of Kitchener stitch for the underarm stitches I knit a few rows in a contrasting yarn, so I could easily see how the connecting thread should run:


En ik ben tevreden met het resultaat:

De stad Gent, die er prat op gaat het grootste voetgangersgebied van België te hebben, is momenteel een pure nachtmerrie voor mensen die te voet gaan (voor fietsers ook overigens, wegens de vele tramsporen opgevuld met loszittende of ontbrekende kasseien). Een voorbeeld uit mijn onmiddellijke omgeving:
The lovely city of Ghent, being proud of having the biggest pedestrian area of Belgium, is in reality a nightmare for people on foot (and also for cyclists because of the tram-rails filled up with loose or missing cobblestones). An example from my neighbourhood:


Zaterdag leverde dit mij op het kruispunt Zonnestraat-Veldstraat een gebroken middenvoetsbeentje op, met een aantal weken werkonbekwaamheid.

Een pleister op de wonde dit zijde-merinos cobwebgaren in smaragdgroen (niet te fotograferen, veel groener in het echt):

En de uitvinder van deze futuristische plateauschoen verdient een medaille. Hierdoor moest ik uiteindelijk niet in het gips omdat ik alleen op mijn hiel belast door de uitsparing vooraan:

And the inventor of this futuristic plateau shoe deserves a high distinction. I escaped a plaster by wearing this shoe because I can only walk on the heel:

Japans gehaakt sjaaltje met vierkantjes-Japanese crocheted scarf with squares

Dit sjaaltje heb ik al eens eerder gehaakt voor een breivriendin. Ik vind het patroon nog steeds even boeiend en deze keer is het mijn eigen exemplaar:
I used to crochet this scarf before, not for myself but for a knitting friend. This pattern still fascinates me and so I made one for myself too:

Al bij het blokken was de speciale vorm van het patroon een plezier om naar te kijken:

Het handgesponnen zijdegaren dat ik vorig jaar rond Kerstdag op de kop tikte, is volledig verwerkt in weer een andere Estlandse sjaal uit het boek van Nancy Bush. Eigenlijk wil ik alle modellen uit dit boek gebruiken, ik vind ze om ter mooist:
The handspun silk yarn that I found last Christmas, has been used for yet another Estonian lace shawl from the book by Nancy Bush. I will try out eventually all patterns from this book because every pattern is more lovely than the other:

De richting van het kantpatroon gaf aanleiding tot een gegolfde rand bij het blokken:

The direction of the lace pattern made me opt for a curved edging while blocking:

Gebrokenhartjessjaaltje-Bleeding Hearts Scarf

Het was Ishi, een inspirerende breister uit Japan, die dit sjaaltje populair maakte. Toen ik een patroon zocht voor twee bolletjes Bombay katoen van Katia, dacht ik er automatisch aan.
It was Ishi, a most inspiring knitter from Japan who draw our attention to this scarf. Searching for a pattern to make use of two balls Bombay cotton from Katia, I remembered it:

Het kleurverloop van dit garen is echter nogal lang zodat ik hele lange stukken hartjes in dezelfde tint bekwam, hetgeen ik een beetje saai vond. Ik heb dit vermeden door te werken met twee bolletjes katoen die op een verschillende plaats begonnen waren, zodat het leek dat ik met twee kleuren aan het haken was. De niet gebruikte draad werd langs de achterzijde meegehaakt:

The colour sequence of this yarn is rather long so I became whole stretches in the same shade which seemed a bit boring. To avoid this I used two balls of yarn started at a different place so I was crocheting with two threads in a different colour. The one not used was crocheted along on the back side:

Aan de voorzijde is de ongebruikte draad licht zichtbaar, net een hartje als bij de echte bloemetjes:

On the front the unused thread is slightly visible, it resembles a heart like with the real flower:

Een leuk detail is dat de verschillende einden ineengevlochten kunnen worden en op zijn plaats blijven:

A nice feature of this pattern is that the different ends can be plaited and stay in place:

Maastricht mei-May 2009

Vorige maand bracht ik een heerlijke driedaagse door in de streek van Maastricht. Het werd een combinatie van natuur en cultuur.
De eerste dag een prachtige wandeling in het Gerendal op zoek naar wilde orchideeën,

Last month I had a lovely stay in the Netherlands in the region of Maastricht, a mixture of culture and nature.

On the first day a lovely nature walk in the Gerendal in search of wild orchids,

gecombineerd met een kleurrijke boswandeling:

De tweede dag een bezoek aan de historische binnenstad van Maastricht met haar vele kerkschatten:

On the second day a visit of the historical city of Maastricht with beautiful treasures in the old churches:

In Maastricht is het bijzonder aangenaam om te slenteren doorheen de oude straten met veel groene plekjes. Ook het winkelaanbod is erg verleidelijk...

In Maastricht it is a pleasure to stroll through the old streets with a lot of greenery. The shopping is also particularly tempting...
