Chilean Clover Scarf-Blocking

My Supervisor of yarn was most satisfied with the insulating qualities of the scarf. On the other hand it needed some treatment because it was looking all too casual:

Opspannen is een lastige taak:
Blocking is hard work:

The alpaca yarn of the previous blog post, Araucanía Copihue, is rather bulky and the colour sequence is short. A crocheted scarf seemed a good idea to bring forward its intrinsic qualities.
Some time ago a certain clover pattern on Craftster drew my attention; it proved ideal:

The crochet has been executed so that only the front side of the chain stitches is visible. I obtained this by working alternately from the right to the left and vice versa, without turning the work. The trellis of chain stitches lies as much as possible on the back side of the clover leaves so that they come out nicely:

The Chilean yarns of Araucanía all bear a name that refers to typical elements of this country.
Copihue is the national flower of Chili, a mostly red bellflower found in the forests of the south.
The hues of colour shade PT503 of Araucanía Copihue, a bulky hand painted 100% super fine alpaca yarn found at Stoffenidee in Ghent, were too enticing to resist. I have no copihue flowers in my garden, but another Chilean plant, the Fuchsia magellanica, was used as a substitute:

This yarn is likely to become a scarf, well adjusted to my Sunrise Circle Jacket:

It is rather interesting to look up the national flower for each country. For Belgium it is the red poppy, for the Netherlands the tulip, for the United Kingdom the Tudor rose, and so on.

Gloriosa of prachtlelie.
More "exotic" countries have according national flowers. Argentina and Uruguay opted for the coral tree, Guam for the bougainvillea, South-Africa for the Protea and Zimbabwe for the Gloriosa or flame lily.

Countryside 2008

The harvest of this year consisted of 2 felted stones and 2 skeins of silk from Arto Silk of Bruges, 5 books (1 about the sampler collection of the V&A , 1 about the valuation of samplers, 2 about antique needlecraft tools and 1 about Paisley shawls), a sauna cushion and two tea-towels from Finland, available at Lapuan), a felted Christmas ornament and a paperclip brass hand. Also some local sweets: Belgian almond speculoos, a mattentaart and some advocaat.

When the knitting yarn comes from Capistrano...

When the swallows come back to Capistrano".
When I visited the Habu booth early this year at l'Aiguille en Fête, I noticed the word Capistrano. It sounded familiar to me: one of my fathers favourite CDboxes, by Harry James & his orchestra, contains the song "When the swallows come back to Capistrano". The mission post at San Juan Capistrano, California, is well known for the legend that the cliff swallows return every year on the same day, March 19th and that in Autumn they leave for their winter quarters in Argentina on October 23d.

There were two different yarns from Capistrano Fiber Arts: a 100% Tassar silk bouclé in melting colours and a 40% silk/60% kid mohair mixture:

A scarf pattern was included, using both yarns together. I substituted the lace pattern because I wanted a more diagonal structure for the stitch:

Het resultaat is een hemels zacht sjaaltje:
The resulting scarf is heavenly soft:

Er is een leuke gekrulde rand aan:

There is a nice ruffle at the edge:

And imagine that I have another shade in this yarn, perhaps I'll incorporate this into the front of a jacket. The colours are so subtle that they resemble those of an orchid:
