De boord werd met dubbele draad Evilla 8/1 gehaakt omdat de 8/2 niet meer beschikbaar was:

Laat ik even de kat aan het woord: "Mijn vrouwtje moet nu toch echt aan de slag want enkele projecten dienen dringend geblokt te worden. Ik weet niet wat dat roze en groene ding op de voorgrond moet voorstellen. Het is wel zalige wol om in weg te zinken..."

Vooraleer deze blog helemáál om Madeira draait wil ik mijn vakantieproject tonen: een gehaakte midzomernachtssjaal, een patroon van Lisa Naskrent. Ik koos een streng Evilla Art Yarn 8/2 uit mijn wolvoorraad, vorig jaar gekocht bij Astrid's Dutch Obsessions:
Before this knitting and crochet blog is taken over entirely by Madeira, I will show you my holiday project: a crocheted Midsummer Night's Shawl, a pattern from Lisa Naskrent. The yarn chosen is Evilla Art Yarn 8/2:

En natuurlijk gebruikte ik een houten haaknaald van Laurel Hill om doorheen de controle op de vlieghaven te geraken:

Sjaaltje in roosvenstersteek-afwerking. Catherine Wheel stitch scarf-finish.

Even een toelichting: de veelkleurige wol werd aan één zijde meegewerkt met het lichtblauw, anders had ik ontelbare draadjes in te stoppen. Door de lichtblauwe halve rondjes opzij aan te vullen met halve rondjes veelkleurig, werd de meegeleide draad mooi verborgen:
A small detail: the multicoloured yarn was visible at one side of the scarf because it was worked together with the pale blue yarn; cutting it every time would have meant to darn a multitude of loose ends. By completing the blue half circles by multicoloured ones, this was nicely covered up:


Als sjaalspeld vind ik deze millefiori broche, lang geleden gekocht in Venetië, wel geschikt:

Sjaaltje in roosvenstersteek-Catherine Wheel stitch scarf-Start

Na de kerst ben ik aan een gehaakt sjaaltje begonnen in roosvenstersteek. Rei deed mij een groot plezier door vanuit Japan Diamusée fine van Diakeito mee te brengen. Dit is de wol die door Moonstitches gebruikt werd voor de rubarb scarf. Als contrasterend garen leek hemelsblauwe Kidsilk haze wel geschikt:

After Christmas I started a crocheted scarf in Catherine Wheel stitch. Rei had offered to bring from Japan some lovely Diakeito Diamusée fine, used for the well known rubarb scarf from Moonstitches. As a contrasting yarn I choose ethereal blue Kidsilk haze:

Sjaaltje in waaierpatroon-Fan Bookmark Scarf

Al een hele tijd was ik van plan dit sjaaltje te haken omdat ik het een fascinerend patroon vind. Crochetroo uit Australië gebruikte het als bladwijzer, anderen zoals Windloop uit Maleisië en Mette uit Kopenhagen maakten er een sjaalpatroon van. Zelf heb ik het patroon behoorlijk moeten aanpassen om voldoende grote waaiers te bekomen. Tapestry van Rowan is nu eenmaal niet zó dik:
For some time now I had planned to crochet this scarf because I find the pattern most fascinating. Crochetroo from Australia used it as a bookmark, others like Windloop from Malaysia and Mette from Copenhagen made it into a scarf. As Tapestry from Rowan is not a very thick yarn, I had to change the pattern considerably to make the fans big enough:

Laurel Hill haaknaalden-crochet hooks

In augustus 2008 kreeg ik een 1e prijs in de maandelijkse "wedstrijd" van de Crochet on Ravelry-groep. Gisteren ontving ik een pakje in de post, helemaal uit Oregon:
In August 2008 I won first prize in the monthly contest of the Crochet on Ravelry group. Yesterday there was a package in my mail-box, all the way from Oregon:


Ingesloten waren 3 mooie haaknaalden van Laurel Hill in exotisch hout, met een ergonomische handgreep en in een dikte van 3.25, 3.50 en 3.75 mm. Erg welkom, want ik had er nog geen in deze tussenmaten:
It contained 3 lovely crochet hooks from Laurel Hill, made from exotic wood, with an ergonomic thumb rest and in the sizes 3.25, 3.50 and 3.75 mm. These will come in very handy because I did not have the in-between sizes:


Het donkerste exemplaar is ebbenhout, het middelste is nam oc en het bleekste is trai. Het hout is afkomstig van duurzaam beheerde bossen en de fabricatie gebeurt in samenwerking met Vietnamese partners. Ik ben al ongeduldig om ermee aan de slag te gaan. De naaldjes bevinden zich reeds in goed gezelschap van tassar zijde, kid mohair en angora:
The darkest one is ebony wood, the medium is nam oc and the lightest one is trai wood. They come from renewable woods and are manufactured in cooperation with Vietnamese partners. I am eager to use them for the first time. The needles are already in the good company of tassar silk, kid mohair and angora:

Het gebruikte patroon mondde uit in een speelse sjaal die op verschillende manieren kan gedragen worden.
The pattern that I used resulted in a playful scarf that can be worn in different ways.

Het was zalig haken omwille van de zachtheid van dit alpacagaren en de subtiele kleurschakeringen die door de vingers glijden...
It was lovely crocheting because of the softness of this alpacayarn and the subtle shades of colour gliding through my fingers...

Chilean Clover Scarf-Blocking

Mijn Inspectrice van Wol en Garen was best tevreden over het isolatievermogen van de sjaal. Wel was er nog werk aan de winkel want zo ziet het er toch wel erg nonchalant uit:
My Supervisor of yarn was most satisfied with the insulating qualities of the scarf. On the other hand it needed some treatment because it was looking all too casual:

De klaverblaadjes zijn steeds naar boven gericht en in het midden van de sjaal, waar ze tegenover elkaar liggen, heb ik ze verbonden door 2 rijen van klavertjes vier:
